In this era of mass-innovation, multi-stakeholders are more tightly engaged in smart product and service design and operation, where increasingly frequent transdisciplinary and cross-organization collaborations result in an explosive integration and innovation of engineering concepts, experience, theories, and methodologies. Considering human’s limited cognitive ability and specialty, advanced AI techniques and computing methods are leveraged to facilitate product/service design and operation in all aspects. Transdisciplinary engineering informatics is emerging in smart product and service design and operation, aiming to solve the severing contradiction between multifarious heterogeneous resources and conventional approaches for data/information/knowledge management.

With particular emphases both on ‘transdisciplinary knowledge’ and ‘product/service design and operation’, transdisciplinary engineering informatics is essential to (1) synthesize the massive amounts of multi-source heterogeneous user-generated and product-sensed data for transdisciplinary design/operation knowledge elicitation; (2) establish a knowledge-based, sustainable and explainable manner for evolving product/service design and optimizing its operation with multiple concerns; (3) investigate a human-centric mechanism for transdisciplinary knowledge storing/sharing/reusing in product/service design and operation; and (4) improve the productivity and creativity of transdisciplinary and cross-organization collaborations with practical informatics-based tools and systems.

Given those factors, this workshop aims to discuss the state-of-the-art, informatics-based approaches, tools and systems to support smart product/service design and operation. Talks are invited in, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Systematic framework for transdisciplinary knowledge-based smart product-service system design
  • Transdisciplinary approaches to smart products and services innovation
  • Multi-source heterogeneous data-driven products and services evolvement
  • Deep-learning based text mining and public opinion analysis for smart service design
  • Data-driven optimization of product and service operation in the whole lifecycle
  • Semantic-based transdisciplinary design/operation knowledge representation/reasoning/ recommendation
  • Construction and application of transdisciplinary ontology and knowledge graph
  • Transdisciplinary knowledge-based decision-support systems
  • Theoretical investigations and experiment design for transdisciplinary engineering thinking
  • Human-centric approaches and tools for transdisciplinary knowledge reuse/transfer
  • Informatics-based methods for design/operation team collaboration and productivity-improving
