Our world is getting more and more complex and complicated. What makes problems difficult is changes become unpredictable. Yesterday, changes were smooth, so we could differentiate them and predict the future. Our world was closed with boundary. Therefore, we could set our goal easily and we could focus our attention on how we could get there faster and more effectively. In short, yesterday was an age of tactics and control.
But today, our world expands more and more and shifted into an open world without boundary.
But we introduced the idea of System Identification and we expanded the controllable world. Our world, however, increased its speed of expansion, so we cannot apply rational approaches anymore. We have no other choice than to go ahead by trial and error. In short, coordination becomes important. Thus, the world is shifting from control to coordination. In other words, we need to consider how we can make the best use of our currently available resources.
Therefore, the importance of network is rapidly increasing. But most of them discuss a network in the same sense as a team in sports, where the number of players and the rules are fixed. But what we need now is a network that can change very flexibly and adaptively to cope with the frequently, extensively and unpredictably changing environments and situations. And to realize true IoT, we need to work together with machines on the same team. In this workshop, we will discuss how we can realize such a truly adaptive network.
